Just a blog |
I think this is pretty funny: When I started the couch to 5k program, I was ecstatic when I achieved just over 3k at the end of my run, now, with less than 3 weeks left in the program, I get upset when I get below 4k, or higher than 8’30/km. Wow how things have progressed, it actually makes me really really happy to see! :-)
So, I decided to throw myself out of my routine, and I ran at the shore today (ah the joys of living near a coast!). It was a great choice, and I don’t think I’ll ever regret it. It was nice and cool (although I was incredibly sweaty anyway after finishing my run), and I definitely will be using the route again. It had more hills than I’m used to, but it just means I’ll be training harder, and my legs will become more toned as a result. Anyway, it was an excellent run. However, now I have a weird asthma like cough. I guess I’ll have to keep an eye on that haha
So instead of a run tonight at the gym, I went on the stationary bike, and then did a circuit. Wow let’s just say that my legs are now jelly, and I could barely get up the stairs to my room when I got home. Yikes…Let’s hope I’m alright to do a run tomorrow! Really looking forward to it…
My gym has TRX stuff, so I might try out some chest, shoulder, arm stuff tomorrow with it after my run. We shall see though!
blargh, I kind of fell off the bandwagon there for a few weeks. Not only did work get in the way, I just lost motivation. Hopefully today I’ll pick my a** up and head to the gym! Thankfully work can be pretty physically active, so I’m getting SOME physical activity. Nothing too strenuous though…
So I took some time off to let my legs heal (because of shin splints) and now I’ve fallen into the motivational slump…blargh, I need to pick myself up again and continue on, but…I’m having a hard time doing it. Come on you can do it! We’ll see how this works out…
Yep! I ran! First time in 3 days (I don’t know how I survived the wait!). It felt so good. At first I was little worried that I had lost my endurance, but I guess I just needed to warm up my lungs a bit, because by the end of my last run, I was like, ‘you know what, I’m going to push myself! 30 more seconds of running. I can do it!’ and once those 30 seconds went by I decided for another 30. So I ran an extra minute! I mean I was incredibly out of breath by the end of that minute, but I made it! I’m quite proud of myself! :D:D
So I ran today to finish off W2 of C25K. Yeah, my left shin was starting to ache (just like last summer when I had my first pair of Nike Frees) so I’m thinking I’m going to rest up this weekend (as much as I can seeing as I am working all weekend…) and then switch back to my Nike Lunarglide+3’s to hopefully counteract the starting shin splints.
Other than that, I had a great run! I will probably have to repeat W2D3 again, just because I’m still slightly winded, but it was way better than D1!
So I ran today. And of course it was 27 degrees Celsius and the humidex made it 34. Yeah, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, but holy shit it wasn’t easy! It felt really hard to breathe at times, but honestly, I pushed through it, and it did get a tiny bit easier.
Of course me being me, I decided I’m going to go for a swim tonight too. You know, get in that extra bit of cardio! However, to tell you the truth, I honestly am going swimming because I feel stiff and my muscles were sore this morning, so swimming shall definitely loosen them up for me :)
BTW: just a clarification, when I saw I ran, I mean I’m doing the couch to 5k program. I’m on week 2 day 2. WEE! Only just starting out but honestly, I’ve started a new program that hopefully make me stick with it! (every time I work out I put money in a jar, and at the end of the month I’ll count it and if I have enough I will buy some new workout clothes.
Just got back from a run. It wasn’t as awesome as my last one, but probably because I upped the ante on it. I also got new shoes, so I was more conscious of that and making sure they weren’t making my legs hurt or feet hurt in odd places. I think I have to play around with the laces a bit to make sure they don’t make my pinky toes go numb (like they did this run!)
I picked up Asics GelBlur33 in white and pink. I really didn’t want that colour but honestly, I wanted a more minimalist shoe (I was using Nike Lunarglide + 2 and those things feel so clunky compared to those Asics!) and those were the only wants I felt I could run in and not give myself shin splints (I tried Nike Free Run + but I could already feel a slight ache in my left shin when all I did was do a light jog up and down the aisle in the sporting goods store) and I really don’t think I’m ready for full on barefoot running shoes (ahem Vibram 5-fingers). I want to break myself in gently, so hopefully these shoes will be able to do just that for me.
I really didn’t want to write a blog post only about the new shoes and the run I went on today, but rather I wanted to write about an idea I had while driving home from my run (yes, I drive somewhere and park and then go for my run. It’s a nice trail!) I’m going to leave my Nike’s in the trunk of my car with a change of clothes (ahem running gear) so that way if I’m stressed after work and won’t have time to go for a run when I get home, I can just go to Point Pleasant Park, get changed in a bathroom, and then set out for a run. Perfect idea, no? Hopefully it will help with motivation also, which I’m sure will start to lack soon (as it always will unfortunately haha).
But yes, that’s all for now! :D WEEE!
So I did end up going for that run yesterday, and let’s just say, it was my best idea ever! After a crazy stressful shift, it was just what I needed. It was an amazing way to destress, and it just felt so good!
Today I went for a walk with le pooch, and unfortunately I wore a pair of ‘barefoot shoes’ by Fila that caused me to get a blister on the back of my heel. D’oh -.- I put a blister cushion on it so hopefully I’ll be good to go for tomorrow’s Walk the Walk for Autism, and then another run on Sunday!
Also, in case those who are following me are interested, I’m now on fitocracy, and again it was a great decision! I love the props and congrats I get from total strangers! Amazing community of support, which I hope will make me stick with running and other exercise!
